ABOUT THE ARTIST

I’ve been creating art since I can remember. As a child, I remember tracing and copying my favorite comic book characters like Spiderman, Batman, and Superman. I fell in love with the process of drawing characters and portraits. For me, art would be my superpower.
For years I didn't have a focus for my art. I had no distinguishable style. It took a tragic moment in my life to finally focus that hard-earned skill and use it to transform the negative energy into true positivity. My sister, Rachel, passed away suddenly in the spring of 2015 due to battling complications from Crohn’s Disease. I battled grief for over a year. I didn’t even think about making art. I was sick with grief. I ended up becoming very ill while visiting my parents in Michigan. I spent a week in the hospital. It was a low point for me and I had to make a decision to move forward. I made the decision to use art to heal myself. The series Gone 2 Soon is dedicated to the memory of my sister by creating portraits of influential people who’ve passed before their time.
I paint in the style of pop art portraiture. I carefully apply acrylic paint layer-by-layer, ensuring that the artwork has a flat finish, void of brush marks (An homage to Pop Art).
